Original Shop Hop Quilt Block

In Spring of 2021, a local guild, the Manitoba Prairies Quilters, hosted a Virtual Shop Hop.  They invited local quilt shops to design an original quilt block following the theme Black, White & Bright.  I'm excited to share the one I designed with you!  Below, you'll see my trial block, using scrap fabrics:

And here is my "good" trial block, using the fabrics that were part of the kit (although in different placements than the final design):

I thought the black and white stripe was fun, graphic and a great way to tie the other fabrics together.  If stripes aren't for you, the diagonal bar would also work well with a small-scale floral, ditsy or even a solid.

Because the kit was offered in four colourways, I wanted a way to showcase all of the options and make a useful finished product.  Here is how the shop sample turned out (I just love the pink striped binding!).

If you'd like to make a block, please find the instructions here.  Happy sewing and enjoy the creative process!
